I know, probably a pipe dream, but hoping to replace our current cheap-o 55" in the bedroom with a more current model (smart) and better speakers, preferably front-firing. Can't be larger than 55" due to the location on the wall. Trying to avoid a soundbar as that's just another device that needs power and a remote. Does such a TV exist?

The Spectre we have now has an issue where the speakers "overheat" after half an hour or so and begin to get distorted. I got it from a friend who had it mounted outdoors and the AV board went bad (HDMI inputs did not work). Rather than see it get tossed I took it off his hands and replaced the board for a few bucks. I realize a soundbar is probably the best option, but I'd rather put that money towards a better TV if at all possible. TIA...

Don't think I've seen one for a long time. Everyone wants the narrowest bezel possible. Perhaps try AVSForum, or just hunt the electronics shops...

I recently purchased a 55" Sony Bravia XR A90J OLED TV. It uses the entire screen as a speaker(don't ask me how that works, but it does). Outstanding picture and sound. I don't know what your budget is, but I believe this TV would accomplish what you want. However, it is pricey!

Trying to find a tv with front firing speakers could be rather elusive. An easy solution is to use some thin aluminum sheet, cut and bend as necessary. Sound is deflected forward, enhancing all aspects.
