Looks but doesn't touch

AH,

I saw "Dick Tracy" recently for the first time. As you mention, the visual transferrance of the comic strip to live action was imaginative- the brash, flat colours, hard, shadowless lighting, generic "1939 Car", costumes, make-up, etc. Really quite amazing in some visual ways in the sense of reproducing the old comic book (sorry- "graphic novel") look.

The problem is that the story and characters just didn't engage my attention for more than 10 minutes- I immediately wondered off into attention to the movie's look and soon thereafter wondered off to C-SPAN- where something was happening.

A missed opportunity.

Cheers,

Bambi B
