the T.A.M.I show, a 60's rock show on DVD, a big winner

This is a concert put together to make a film, and I am recommending it for anyone with an interest in 60's pop music. I viewed the dvd from a public library loan on a video screen, and the quality is good, just flawless, and surprising, considering what most video recordings from back them look like.

Some very strong performances recorded here, Jame brown appears with the famous flames, and later said it was the best recording of a performance of his. Also the miracles, the supremes, the impressions , Rolling Stones, and The Beach Boys. Also period interest stuff, Leslie gore sings my party and I'll cry if I want to, and a couple of English bands with radio hits show up, but what are you going to do, these were big acts at the time.

Shot during the beatlemania days, even the stones were from Liverpool back when this was shot, and the format goes from American to English bands, back and forth, with a few duds thrown in, groups that were popular in the day but hardly worth screen time when chuck berry is on the scene.

Lots of go go dancers all over the place, and one of the last performances of The Beach Boys with Brian Wilson , they do " surfer girl" with such strong harmonies, you can see the joy in the faces as the music comes together like a dream.

Pretty easy to hear glen cambel on guitar in the back up orchestra that plays throughout the show, they had the famous studio wrecking crew plus the blossoms to pitch in.

Teen Age Music International was supposed to be an ongoing award show, but only this one movie was made. One of the first electronic broadcast productions, it used no film and required a lot of new tech to put this on. Filmed over three days, no retakes, all cuts and edits were live, it turned into a battle of the bands deal, every one was swinging for the fences, seeing the possibilities present in the days before music videos.

This film was an underground hit, but because of contractual obligations, all the boot leg copies never had the beach boys included. This one has every performance, with a very young original line up stones. Because of the set up time between acts for the film , the stones felt like they weren't following James brown on stage. They were probably more concerned about ripping off chuck berry for their opening song. As related in the bonus feature dictation, nobody follows James Brown.
