Barkskins

Watched three episodes of this on Nat Geo last night. Interesting story based on a novel by Annie Proulx, so it has a good pedigree. Some great characters, especially David Thewlis playing a nutty French aristocrat in the wilds of New France, Canada.

One viewer complained of everything being so dark that he couldn't see the action, even considering that it was set in the middle of nowhere and candles or torches were the only available light.

Amen, brother. SO many movie scenes are shot in near total darkness, even in expensive blockbusters. It's a lazy director's trick; scenes are much easier to set up, shoot, and edit.
