Overlord -- reporting in, SIR!

As the Globe said, "This is not an especially gripping tale." But, WHAT A MOVIE!

Forget Spielberg (if you haven't already), here is the real landing on Normandy -- using historic footage, with the written scenes conforming (even to choice of film stock and lenses) to the real ones. It was gripping. Totally gripping.

Yeah, yeah, I know: No FX. So what?

The acting too was superb. The only disappointment at all was the conclusion, but hey, that was three minutes out of ninety.

How lucky I was to see this 1975 production in the theatre! (And a new 35mm print too.) With other people there to share the experience -- and I could feel them doing so -- this is what movie-going is all about.

Here's hoping it comes out on DVD so everyone can watch it.
