I've seen it half a dozen times, and it keeps revealing more layers of depth and subtlety each time I see it. I'm glad you kept an open mind and discovered this gem of a movie. So many others have casually dismissed it as a POS without having taken the time to understand what it is about. Maybe they are just put off by all those naked chicks...
