I've read Testament of Youth - it is one of those essential books. But I've not seen the TV mini-series.

Have you seen the movie Remains Of The Day? It's one of the better Merchant/Ivory productions. The movie is great, but the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro is even better (his best IMHO).

Another which springs to mind is that old warhorse Chariots Of Fire.

A real gem you may not have ever seen is Michael Powell's Edge Of The World. This was his first movie (made in 1937) and is set in Scotland.
