RE: monuments men

Hiya Mike… In case you haven't already seen it… I picked up the bluray of Monuments Men at Redbox yesterday. I agree that it's not an Oscar kind of film, but I thought it was entertaining. I was previewing it for viewing with others here who will appreciate that it was not a big blood and guts war film.

I knew only bits and pieces about the history of the Nazi art heists and I'm not relying on this flick for accurate history of course. However there were some interesting details I was glad to learn. For one thing, one of the main art pieces they were chasing was one I'd stood in front of in Brugge Belgium years ago, Michelangelo's Madonna and Child. There was another favorite piece that got saved - DaVinci's Lady with the ermine. I ran across that one in Krakow and it was a stunner in person. I wasn't expecting a DaVinci there, and just wandered into the museum on a whim.

I'd say rent it but forego thinking of it as any great flick. No sense thinking of it as historically accurate, either, although it seems to have gotten the basics more or less ok, after you allow for the Hollywood drama etc, like romance.

buck fifty I was happy to spend.
