You want amnesia? Pull out your cobweb covered copy of 'Memento'. That's amnesia with action. 'Before' is amnesia with Ambien thrown in. Yeah, Firth is almost superb because he plays what he does best--an upright Brit prig. Mark Strong is always good and Nicole is good but not knocking it out of the park.
The basics are Nicole's memory wipes every night, her struggle to be cured, dealing with a very loving and caring husband only to eventually find things are never what they seem. Hey, it's a movie, that's the way it's supposed to be!
I'm not sure if the story wasn't compelling or the direction was lacking in said department. It was pretty much a been there, done that kind of film. It's not that amnesia is a well-worn subject as it is an easily worn subject.
Not much to see here, move along. No trailer as you would doze.
