"The Hollars": Going down home once again . . .

Another shot at this oft told tale of family reuniting under stressful circumstances. This time Margo Martindale steels the show as the family matriarch who is diagnosed with a brain tumor resulting in conflicts of renewed sibling rivalary, a father who is losing it, a brother who persists in stalking his ex-wife, and an unmarried, insecure pregnant girlfriend.

John Krasinski acted and directed this warmer than tepid display of characters who were all well-drawn being both serious and humorous. Poor Richard Jenkins spent half his time crying which must have been tough. Krasinski played the middle road guy who held things together quite well. Martindale rules on the "down home" front and she did so here. She is quite a character.

This is a mild diversion that probably won't merit a much viewership here. The bulk of the film was produced in my hometown and you can see the eternal Brent's Drugs and my Junior High School. On second thought, that makes it a must see.
