Remember the "Eiger Sanction", 1974, Eastwood?

For those who have dangled from a rope once or twice, or like backstories about films, the link is to an article written by a crew member for that film. The author is a technical climber hired to rig and advise. As such, he's critical of details and attitudes (as good climbers are), and it tells in his writing.

Interesting stuff. As you know, the movie was filmed mostly on the Eiger, so it had that authenticity that sets good films apart. The story was silly, but the setting transcended that.

One of my favorite movies because of the climbing. Two climbing teams, unassociated with the movie, summitted while filming was in progress. The Messner-Habeler team set a record of 10 hours; the other team was Roskelley-Kopcyzynski. Messner of course, hobnobbed with the cast and crew after their climb. Roskelley, another classically famous climber, reportedly came and went.
