RE: Blue Ray player w/ composite or DTV Output

Most players from a couple years ago will have component outputs (those are the ones you'll want to use for BD). A good one (to buy used) that isn't too old would be an Oppo BDP-93, for example, or an -83. I mention them because they do the 1080i output very well IMO (I have both).

I don't think you can buy anything current/new that has either component/composite outputs, it's not (technically!) legal in the U.S. now AFAIK. You definitely don't want to watch BD using composite (480i), kind of pointless, there is the odd currently available player that has that analog output still (e.g. Seiki).

I also have an old Sony 1080i projection TV that still works fine, doesn't look bad at all with BD via component, certainly a big step up over 480p DVD. But not even remotely close to as good as a 1080p plasma though...it's not like I'd ever choose the RPTV over it, but it *is* a serviceable option...
