A stereo source contains two channels, nothing more.

If you set the AVR to 5.1 stereo, it will come out the original two channels, and possibly the subwoofer.

If you want it to come out all channels you will need to select some synthesized mode on the receiver like Dolby Pro Logic or Neo.
