Legendary director Fred Zinneman's Julia. Playwright Lillian Hellman's autobiographical piece based on her book Pentimento. It recounts Hellman's childhood to adult relationship with her friend Julia, her life long lover writer Dashiell Hammett and set against the backdrop of Nazi Germany. Starring Jane Fonda, Vanessa Redgrave, Jason Robards, Maximilian Schell, Cathleen Nesbitt (her final role) and in her very first screen performance a young Meryl Streep. Nominated for 11 Academy awards, it won three for Redgrave, Robards and Alvin Sargent for screenplay. It's IMO 2+ hours of cinematic excellence!
