spoilers inside: good but not great

I'm a sucker for these kind of atmospheric crime dramas. I thought the atmosphere was beautifully done, filmed on location, and the actors went to great efforts to get the local accents right, as noted in every article.

And it's a bleak scene, Mare's son dead by suicide, about to lose custody of her grandchild to his drug addicted mother.

The main crime, the first murder, is well done. The viewer is led through various likely scenarios, before the fairly shocking final reveal of the murderer.

For some reason, they add a couple more serious crimes, kidnapping and possible murder, but these add nothing to the story. The criminal turns out to be some completely random guy we've never seen before, and yes, this subplot leads to the death of a main character, but the whole subplot is unrelated to the rest of the story. A good crime drama does not reveal the criminal as some random unknown person.

But bottom line, I looked forward to seeing what happened week to week.
