competition for Best Picture.
This is a l o n g, very complex film. It is a film about a group of actors performing, "Uncle Vanya" while they themselves are experiencing similarly wrenching personal traumas. Several of the performances are Oscar-worthy.
A man suffers several tragedies and attempts to carry on as a theater director, unable to continue his previous occupation of actor. In a sense, this is a road movie, but without the light-heartedness of that genre. Hiroshima is a principal location, and it is appropriate to the themes--- be warned, this isn't melodrama, it's heavy, heavy drama.
