RE: Whole lotta crappy looking/sounding sci-fi/fantasy stuff there...

IMO, the short list o best movies, regardless of genre, are about people.

Relationships, abilities (special and otherwise) and situations which you can identify with.

You have to be interestd in these people even IF you can't quite identify with them.

You might look at the ENGLISH language version of 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo'. with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. Well cast, good chemistry, engaging plot and a MYSTERY, the solution of which I Doubt you'll see coming.

But the scene for scene remake of 'Psycho'? A waste of natural resources. Awful.

The list of really BAD movies bombing at the box office is pretty long.
Some real money makers are on this list.....Eddie Murphy / Dustin Hoffman / Warren Beaty /

Some of the really bad ones went nearly 200$Million in the red.

But yet, I like a few of 'em, but not necessarily for why the producers thought I would. I love 'BattleField Earth'. Really terrible and based on the L.Ron Hubbard book. But the real corker is John Travolta (a scientologist) and Forest Witaker ISN'T.
I laugh at all the wrong things and the over the top performance by Travolta should have earned him a lifetime achievement Razzie.
Battlefield Earth got 5 'razzie' nominations and won several......

And yes, most of what is made today IS crap. Recycled scripts. Poor production values. Who told Natalie Portman she could act?
