just how good his films are! I just watched The Apartment for the first time. OUTSTANDING performances by Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine and Fred MacMurray. Of course I was well familiar with the storyline having been in the play Promises, Promises... There are a few other directors that I feel the same way about.... William Wyler, Fred Zinnemann, George Cukor, David Lean and Alfred Hitchcock. I'm sure they made a flop or two along the way but by and large a definitive body of work amongst them!
