"The Last Outpost" (1951)

Posted by BillH on July 2, 2019 at 06:14:17:

I've been watching GRIT, a cable channel that shows a lot of classic Westerns by John Ford, Howard Hawks, etc., and starring John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Randolph Scott, etc.

Last night Ronald Reagan starred in this B flick, with Rhonda Fleming as the female lead. Reagan played Vance Britton, a Confederate cavalry officer leading a troop around Texas in 1862. Reagan was a cigar-smoking, apparently tee-totaling brigand, nonchalantly delivering snappy lines like he knew what he was doing. It was only in the clinches with Rhonda Fleming that he got a little wooden.

A very amusing film, full of strange plot twists and good old fashioned Western action.
