'Midsommar': Ignore that Scandanavian festival invite . . .

Unlike 'Hereditary', this film is open and inviting with sun, blue skies, green pastures, and lots of friendly people who speak Swedish. Its fuse burns at a much slower pace and lacks the immediacy of Aster's first film. This one has many "wait for it" moments and is supported by the unique village and its telling art. Pugh is a very unsympathetic character and her performance keeps everyone else off balance. This is no Godfather II, unfortunately, but Aster's imagination can't be faulted for creating creep and unsettling things.
