Louis Malle's first film, "Lacombe, Lucien" is an upsetting

Posted by tinear on May 23, 2007 at 05:29:05:

portrayal of an amoral young man who, after being thwarted by his teacher from joining the French Resistance, casually aligns himself with the Gestapo.
Soon, he becomes involved in extorting hush money from a Jewish man and soon he is captivated by his young daughter.
I don't want to say too much and give the film's cleverness away but, if you enjoyed "The Garden of the Finzi-Contini," you very much will appreciate this one.
Malle certainly belongs in the highest second-tier of directors but with this one, he elevated to the first.
The young man is so cold one expects ice to form on him and the young woman, the daugher, gives a sensitive and believable portrayal of a most difficult role.
