Guillermo Del Toro likely to helm The Hobbit.

Posted by Harmonia on January 29, 2008 at 21:22:16:

The news has been flying around blogs and message boards since Sunday night that Del Toro will direct the two part Peter Jackson exec-produced Hobbit.

A story in Variety yesterday apepars to confirm this, with budgets tabbed at $150 mil each and filming expected to lense in 2009 for 2010 release of first feature. Link is below.

A video Q&A with del Toro in Spanish and French posted on theonering.net also seems to confirm, although nothing is official at this point. Rumour is NL will make an official announcement after the writers strike ends, if not before. The lawyers have to say grace over everything of course...and I expect they will. New Line needs this badly.

Del Toro was also rumoured to be in talks with WB about directing the last HP film, which this video also seems to confirm.

Cuaron would have been my first choice, but if true, this is good news for fans of ME, very good news.
