Just saw it as well; your description fits much of the movie to a "T".

Perhaps someone will do an Aboriginal film epic on the "birth of song".

For me, "Australia" was aswirl with some mysterious and glorious mojo set against the backdrop of a hundred different movie shots we've seen over and over again, and other than the Aboriginal there seemed not much original about it.

I didn't see as much steam between people as stream between events.

Aboriginal "walk-abouts" are all song to finding the way -- that is evolution, that is connection, that is as real as I can imagine.
