...fiction category, and I would like to add "The Bank Job" for the "real life" crime drama category.
The Usual Suspects has the best story telling and tension, (and Spacey!) througout, and just does not let up - fantastic cast, writing, direction and ENDING.
The line-up scene is priceless - Benicio Del Toro was being interviewed on his Fenster character and said that because Fenster didn't advance the plot with his dialog, he should try a unique street slang vocalization - something in line with Fenster's being part Asian and German?!! He is following the script, it is just hard to tell he's following the script (hehe).
He was given the green light by the director to do so and when the cast loses it in the line-up scene, (they kept it in) I always crack up - real inventive acting and a testament to ensemble work.
