RE: Has Anyone Read the Books?

Posted by kSpace on September 4, 2010 at 17:36:54:

Agree that the translation was crude...or perhaps the original text in Swedish was crude...who knows?

I do know that I gave up a few night's sleep to read the trilogy...absolutely could not put them down! That being said, there are sections in all three books where the story drags...sometimes too political or just too much of this or that. But the arc of the story is very original and exciting. Very sorry the author died before he finished book 4.

The movies very skillfully pared down the storyline. I found myself admiring the adaptation even as I missed some of the true complexity of the books. Also, in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, they changed many details that seemed important to the development of the main characters in the books.

I can't imagine how someone who hasn't read the books would view the story - confusing, flat characters, ?suspense??
