"The Counselor:" DON'T expect your usual caper-gone-wrong action blast, even though it's

Cormac McCarthy written and directed by Ridley Scott: it's cerebral, dark, and kind of makes "No Country" seem almost comedic.
Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Michael Fassbender, and a bunch of other stars in smaller roles round out the cast--- though Cameron Diaz steals the show: looking like she's lived a very hard life, she makes her character seem even harder and rawer.
Like "Traffic," this is a realistic, tough indictment of the drug culture, both from the use and the supply side.
Expect something different and you'll enjoy it.
