Saw "Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them"

Posted by Ross on November 25, 2016 at 08:24:03:

The first movie in the next Harry Potter Series. While I have not read an official comment- I think this is the first in a series of backstory movies that provide the foundation for the HP movies that everyone saw.

This one takes place in NYC, about 70yrs prior to the 1st Harry Potter book/movie.

Quick review- CGI movie with some humans added.

Wizards and their activities have gone underground in the repressed US. The Wizards are depicted as a panoply of ethnic colors, and generally wiser than the non wizards they try to avoid. Main villain is a middle aged white guy.

Human characters are fairly broad. Main lead is a typical absent minded professor, albeit of the wizard variety. Female lead 1 is a typical girl next door type. Female lead 2 is a smart sexpot. Human lead is bumbling, but has a good heart.

Plot summary- a dark force threatens NYC, the wizards save it, and in doing so, they uncover a bad wizard in hiding.

Saw it with the kids (now adults) who grew up with the HP series.

Just ok in my opinion.
