'Frank and Lola': Cautionary tale of taking in a mutt . . .
Posted by Billy Wonka on February 11, 2017 at 14:57:42:
Frank (Shannon) is a well regarded Las Vegas chef who gets involved with the much younger and more mysterious Lola (Poots, I always giggle). They have a strained relationship and Lola disappears one evening only to come home totally disheveled and in tears. She claims rape and Frank finally begins to get into her mysterious background which leads to Alan (Nyqvist) who resides in Paris.
Luckily (?) Frank gets an audition in Paris for a grand, new restaurant in Las Vegas. While there he takes time out to undo Alan for all the horror he has visited upon Lola. Alan turns the tables (peacefully) then takes him on an Eyes Wide Shut Parisian adventure to find out that this was Lola's world as well.
Frank returns torn between having or leaving Lola. It's a question we don't know the answer to . . .
Shannon, a true leading man, was pretty damned good. It's hard to go wrong when you are always yourself. He is in the Robert Duvall Class of actor. (It looks and sounds the same but comes out great.) Poots is growing as a young actress and Nyqvist never does poorly in any role.
This is a Red Box film and probably missed major release because of the wobbly plot. Good international cast, though.
It's a good time killer with a nice dose of Parisian backdrops.
