'Peppermint': Jennifer Gone Wild . . .

Posted by Billy Wonka on September 8, 2018 at 15:36:22:

One of America's few sweethearts shifts her image with shooting felons in the face and cutting a few throats. I guess life with Ben prepared her for this.

Riley North (Garner) loses her husband and daughter in an amusement park shoot down. Brutal and tragic, we learn later this was a revenge move by the local drug kingpin for her husband's complicity in a plot to rip him off. (He actually changed his mind--no matter). The level of police and justice system corruption sends Riley off the deep end after the hit guys are turned loose. Riley escapes a mandated mental hospital stay and disappears for nearly five years. Those five years were spent the Orient learning all the deadly martial arts for a planned and deliberate payback of everyone connected with her loss.

This is a rather predictable, violent film that you wouldn't expect to see Garner in. This is not a ground-breaking story-line but a retelling of revenge tale we've seen a thousand times. There are a few mild twists but not enough to start a long queue to purchase tickets. One thing, there was a ton of us senior matinee folks there Friday--more so than average. So, people like Garner and want to see a white gal kick drug dealer butt, obviously.

3 wonks for production quality and reshaping Garner's resume
2 wanks for nothing new under the Sun
