We tried, when it came out

But it is trash.

This is the third take on a movie based on a rather famous literary work by A. N. Tolstoy... of these three the first one was memorable and good, the second one I did not see, and the last one I wish I didn't see.

Did you really sit through it all? I think we bailed out during the second episode. My wife jumped first, and with no parachute. :)

If you really want to see what the better Russian directors were able to do during the soviet days, try to locate this:

It is a true cult series, and notice its high imdb rating: 9.0. Well deserved, without any doubt. Long stream of 10 out of 10 ratings, with one viewer summing it up aptly:

"This is a jewel of spy cinema"
