I know *alot* of 'Vette drivers who are not on forums, or join clubs etc...or have carry permits. They just like the car. Many like diy maintenance and upgrades. Don't extrapolate from a small sample size. Are all BMW drivers effete a'holes ? No.

As to " the movie was that it showed government as being able to solve problems, useful." I am not so sure. I think it showed what can be accomplished when we are truly unified as a nation and culture- all working to achieve a common goal. We were about 1/2 way through the Cold War in 1969, worried that the Commies would beat us to the Moon (they almost did- an accident halted their program which was about 18mos ahead of ours at the time), and saw our Moon landing as validation of the American way of life. That may be why the Planting of the US Flag is so symbolic, and important. An example of what a nation can accomplish when focused on something that benefits all.

Unification is scary to some people. The right is fearful because some groups may loose attention. The left because after unification, individual groups no longer fight each other and are free to coalesce around something else....like fighting a deep state trying to control everything.
