Cold War

This is currently playing in theaters. The director is nominated for best director Oscar and the film for best foreign film. IMO, this is one of the best movies of last year. It is set in Poland and Paris during years from late 40s to early 60s. At a brisk 85 minutes, seemingly not a moment is wasted. A single statement can summarize an entire back story. The lead actress says of her father "he mistook me for my mother so I set him straight with a knife."
It's a love story, propelled by music. It is A Star is Born, but trimmed down, in an environment of yes Cold War ideological conflict, and with a constant stream of greatly significant music.
If you've seen his last movie Ida, this is somewhat similar, black and white, narrow aspect ratio, lots of story compressed into minimal time.
This is one where, for me, everything worked. Actors, settings, story, and music.
