'Alita: The Battle Angel': A Valentine movie with lots of death . . .

Amazing CGI wins the day. It's so good it lessens the suspension of disbelief, especially with Alita. There are a few moments when she looks animated but her body parts are spot on. The ability to emote so realistically and move so fluidly is amazing. Time marches on and so does CGI. This definitely makes 'Avatar' look like a cartoon.
The story is predictable. Future Earth has been through a near annihilation and the Earth dwellers work for the good of the folks living on the magical city in the sky tethered by supply tunnels. Alita was found by Waltz and recreated into his deceased daughter.
Alita meets a human boy, falls in love, goes on a trip of self-discovery, and battles bad guys all along the way because she's 300 years old and out-of-production. Acting is a fourth fiddle to CGI, costumes, and art direction. But it all good.
4 wonks for production values and spectacle
