Tougher Question

Posted by Larry I on January 25, 2008 at 07:59:50:

Do you buy multiple extra bulbs or not? If you buy extras to hold in reserve, you have to pray that the bulbs last because the warranty will start running when you receive the bulb. This is a tough issue for me, but, knowing how Sony will callously orphan its own customers, stocking up on bulbs may be the only choice. Sony has announced that it will be getting out of the RPTV business (check the other Asylums about unserviceable Sony SCD-1 SACD machines).

I have the Qualia version of this set. Qualia was supposed to be their premium brand -- supposedly with special dealerships offering "premium" service. Unfortunately, the premium brand concept did not work for Sony and they abandoned the brand. Well, last summer it took more than two months to get a replacement bulb. I am thinking of stocking up on bulbs, but that means essentially foregoing the warranty.
