Almost all, with a few notable exceptions, are significantly better than the DVD. You are eventually going to have to change your standards if you wish to be picky about HD. If you judge them by DVD standards, most will be exceptional. You'll need to develop HD standards.
Buy for the titles first, then the picture.

The few exceptions I know of:
House of Flying Daggers
28 Days Later
The fugitive
Eyes Wide Shut
Dirty Dancing
the first version of The Fifth Element (they remastered it later).
