I'll try your suggestions tomorrow. The Sony XA 5400ES is a CD/SACD player without video. I had intended to replace it with the Oppo BDP-95, because the 95 has a superb analog section. The Oppo does have an audio only HDMI output, but I have been using its balanced analog stereo and unbalanced analog 7.1 outputs with the Cary inputs set to bypass. DSD is streamed to the Oppo DACs and sent through the Cary without further processing. I may change that so 7.1 is HDMI. The reason for using analog was that the Cary treats 88.3 kHz LPCM as DSD and provides no bass management. But the mains I use now extend to 20 Hz, so bass management is no longer an issue for music. I bought the Cary for its audio quality even though I knew it was buggy. My setup is used for both music and HT. The Cary outputs to Proceed HPA 2 & 3 amps (500 watts per channel into 4 ohms) that drive KEF Reference 107/2 mains and Ref 102 center and surrounds.
