I think you would be fine with a quality media player, I'm assuming you mean universal player. If your DAC has any type of re-clocking at the input the transport is less critical. If your budget would allow the $499.00 Oppo would be good. If you didn't need Blu-ray or DVD, a Marantz 5004 would work nicely. If you are wanting video disc capability in my opinion about $499.00 is where you begin to get nicer quality universal players.

I've never heard of any particular or extraordinary jitter issues with a player just because it was a universal player. I have noticed different performance or sound from transports but the only time I had one that just was not up to par was a cheap TDK CD recorder.
