I did some research on HT to day and this is what I learned...I have more questions than ever. No two articles seem to agree and they all talk about different subjects. I am not sure that even the experts know everything. Was Joe right?.. Well kind of. The one thing most seem to agree on is that Dolby digital (5.1) has 6 audio channels. I think it is also called Dolby Pro Logic II. We can add speaker (7.1) which I think adds 1 mono track and is split between 2 side speakers. (Dolby digital EX or Dolby Pro Logic 2X 7.1) As far as I can tell 7.1 receivers can also "synthesize" these channels. Most DVD's (and Blu Ray's) have 6 audio tracks but some 7.1 discs (I don't know which one?) has 7. Receivers can go up to 11.2...haven't a clue why? About LFE...sounds good, but what is it? I am guessing it is what a subwoofer can add or full range speakers can do also. I am aware that it can be turned off but isn't that just a high pass filter? I read that some think the fronts and rears should be the same? Are you aware that Dolby labs recommends certain speaker placements? And THX also? All I know is that my Yamaha electronics, my Pinnacle center, My Paradym fronts, my Mission rears and my Definitive Tech sub sound awesome...not sure why that happened.
