Seeking advice about dramatic rethink of my system
Posted by Doktor Brahms on August 26, 2015 at 08:47:10:
I'm posting this here because I think of this as more the home theater forum than the video forum per se.
Won't bore you with a lot of details, but up to now I've maintained a very nice two-channel system in a dedicated listening room and a modest home theater set-up in a spare bedroom. The need to downsize has me looking at basically starting over with a system that serves both music and movies with equal aplomb. My main question here is: which receiver or pre/pro does a decent job with classical music? I've narrowed my search to Yamaha, Marantz, and NAD. I have a friend who puts great stock in the DSP music modes in his Yamaha. There seems to be a broad consensus that NAD tends to accommodate music-loving sensibilities, but I've not had a chance to audition them. As for Marantz, I've owned the brand over the years and the prices on last year's models are very appealing.
FWIW, such things as networking and apps for smart devices are unimportant to me.
One final question: I've narrowed down my choice of primary source component to either the Oppo 105 or the Marantz UD7007. Any input on that?
Thanks for thoughts and opinions!
