Cheapest way to have Remote Control of Volume for TV into Stereo........

OK, most newer TVs have an Optical Digital Output only. The TV is hooked up to a stereo via the DAC. The remote control of the TV is not able to control the volume of the TV with this Setup. There is no Remote Control of the DAC volume or the Pre-amp volume.

I was wondering what could I do for cheap remote control of the volume of the TV in this situation. (This is for a friend, not myself)
