I have posted a couple times regarding my working in motion picture and TV sound. It was exciting many years ago but long ago became mostly as big a drudgery as any other job. Some times I get to see a good new film but often it's crap. This week I got three days running of fun. Laurence of Arabia is coming back out in limited release and they've made three new 70mm prints. I got to watch and do a QC check on all three. What a gorgeous film, shot in 65mm negative and recorded in 6 trk stereo. From Shepperton and Columbia in the days where Hollywood operated under the delusion that quality mattered. I got alot of visits while sitting in my screening room from clients and employees in other stages. All came in to admire a reel and exclaim "WOW". They then left lamenting the world in which we now work.I don't know where these prints are going but keep an eye out in your town, they're very pretty.
Regards

coming out in new print? How about in the super-size format (105mm?) it originally was released in?

I have no idea where these prints are going. I was thinking after I posted that I don't know for sure that it will only be three theaters getting them. It is possible that they are pulling 70mm prints out of a vault from the restoration release of 15 years ago.I wanted to alert film buffs that this is happening, if it is available to you don't miss it. It is one of the truly big beautiful pictures and I think 70mm will soon be forever gone. The prints are just so expensive and bean counters are completely in charge.

To the Music Box Theater.Did you catch the trailer for LOA? It's hilarious. It's the long shot in the desert with L standing in left foreground and Omar Sharif riding a camel toward him, face on - Sharif and mount initially appear as a nearly invisible speck on the horizen and gradually come closer and closer to the camera...The voice over extolls the virtues and reputation of the film and the glory of the new 70mm print, but never mentions LOA by name. The VO finally says something like...if you don't recognize this film after seeing this 35 seconds of footage, then you better get your butt in a seat to see it this fall. LOL! Love it!
Saw Lawrence of Arabia last time it came around in 70mm. Will see it again.
