There is a quadrilogy (?) planned, of which only two, Fire and Earth, have appeared, at least in American theatres. I have seen only the latter. And it was great!
Set in India in 1947, with Hindus and Punjabs and Pakis... Well, you understand the milieu... Divided loyalties... Mixed love...
Now to find, they are both on tape! Probably in pan/scan, but what the hey, go for 'em! And let me know.
Follow Ups:
last is called "water"...problems with the locals during filming i think...sets brought down with riots and such.i found "earth" a bit stronger as a film, but fire is literally another element in the same common thread of humanity....i'm waiting for its release.
I was profoundly moved by Earth. Was its portrayal of Parsees reliable?
air...hehe...saw both a few years ago. i don't recall my exact impressions of how mehta treated parsi's...quite a good idea to tell the story from that youths aspect.
but now you've done it. gonna call and email her production company in toronto to check the deal with Water...also renting both this weekend and will get back to you.
Happy New Year CJ.
