...Does such a thing exist? I understand that the movie was originally supposed to be in color, and that someone managed to make a color print of it awhile back.

Tati´s film is in color. As far I know from the start....
All the recordings I've seen of it were black-and-white, but with hand-colored elements: Have you found a recording which is in full color?
I do not have the book on him anymore but as far I remember it was directly filmed in colour ( even if the first release was in black & white )....We will have to check.....
