Have you ever found yourself describing a particular film using one or more of these words and yet you find the film enormously entertaining and it becomes a guilty pleasure? Such movies for me are "Air Force One" and "Runaway Jury" (and, I suppose if I thought about it, "King Kong").

Follow Ups:
No one looks at people from the floor or with curious lighting like 81/2 or Citizen Kane and absolutely no one then or now talks as ridiculously as they do in Casablanca or Gone With the Wind.
really entertain me. The third is pretty bad, though. I also find the first two "Lethal Weapon" movies really fun.
"Tremors"

Yes. Ebert liked this (particularly the worm pov shots) and I have a couple of friends who enjoyed it. I never got around to seeing it but will. I myself like "The Blob" (both versions).

...with Chris Elliot. I just can't help it. I like this movie.

No one agreed with my second nomination - My Cusin Vinny, yet I think that film deserves attention.Do we have a Complaints Department here? I wanna write one.

Maybe the yout don't know da film.
![]()
. . . Yoots.I have a friend half my age whom I call "Da Yoot". At a get together with a large group that hasn't heard me call him this, everybody gets it.
Any movie that can worm it's way into the consciousness of so many people can't be all bad.

"Wild American youths" which becomes "Wild American Yoots" or (for a native American flavour) "Wild American Utes"
![]()
Thank you. I know what it was, I was just trying to quote the judge's line from the movie. Sorry if it wasn't clear.

![]()
I just treated it as a "set-up". There are those (not habituees of this board, probably) who do not.I like "Wild Americans Utes", myself. But I never was politicallly correct!
Sceenwrites are constantly looking over their shoulders, then the directors... and then you are afraid to even discuss some films!A few more years and the gem like Vinny could not be even made.

Because nobody can remember this horrid caca of yesterday. The Complain Departement.
Did you see it? Are you asking ME? Asking ME?
![]()
![]()
No! Asking ME....
It is a brilliand little film, VERY American, and probably hard to translate - all those Youts... but incredibly funny... and Marisa Tomey is perhaps gorgeous and sexy as never before or after. But the true star of it is Joe Pesci - I wish he did more roles like that.

Thanks for your permission, Now I can avoid therapy.

Aguilty pleasure ? Only if speaks of the horrible remake with J. Lange. The original is in my eyes a masterpiece.
And very erotical. On top.

I love King Kong, also consider it a masterpiece, own it on laserdisc, am anxiously awaiting a good DVD, and have probably seen it over 100 times. But one must admit that it IS implausable, impossible, and ridiculous. After a fully intact 35 MM print was found in Switzerland in 1988(intact except for the notorious spider sequence) Image was able to better Criterion's LD except that they used the CAV side for the truly horrible sequel, a bit of issuing logic (?) that escapes me.
A materpiece it is. On that we can agree, but not on the rest! Why ô why do you have to add " implausable.." ect.. It is just like a fantasy of Andersen or the Brüder Grimm, or..or..Nobody is gonna be fooled that it maybe a true story..Or where you? Did you see this picture as a kid? Did you believe in what you saw? That may explain...
Beware of remakes!
I am waiting for a more definitive copy, having sold my LD.
Have you seen " The most dangerous Game? " Not so good and definitively a " B+ "production it neverless vaporise a similar atmosphere as " Kong. "
![]()
Yes, I own this one as well as "The Lost World" (the original, not the horrid Speielberg Jurassic sequel). Both are good, but nowhere near as good as Kong.
![]()
I remembe..r after Sir Conan Doyle, is it not? Long time ago!
![]()
Si.
![]()
Yeah, it's a classic now.
![]()
Albert Brooks and scene in the office of the Casino Boss(Gary Marshall) where he tries to convince him to give back his nest egg which his wife lost gambling...It's classic...
![]()
Alicia Silverstone reminded me of an early 60s Ann Margret in this. There was a juicy perkiness there that was irrepresable. Fun movie.
![]()
You are not the only one here..Hehehe....
Count me in on Clueleass. But it is not implausable, impossible, or riduiculous.
"Cher, that was a Stop sign back there!"
" I like TOTALLY Paused!!"
"Old People can be So Cute"
"Cher, that isn't a dress, that's Underwear! Who says THATS a dress!?"
"Calvin Klein?"
So many clever lines, and a great cast, they must have had fun making that film!

And I love when she reaches out the kitchen window and picks a lemon off the tree.

He almost killed our friendship! I guess he still needs some cultural training. Nothing but MTV for him for next few months - and he will fall into line, for sure.BTW - Patrick, what's with those missing emails? Did you get mine?
![]()
![]()
Yes!!!! Of course and I send you back yours.....Do not tell me that you did not get it! Please not!!!
Next week I will have the possibility to view all the pictures made from Audrey Hepburn while she was in Wiesbaden! And...I can get some of them. ( remember my daughter must be on some..)
Will it make you a pleasure if I got some for you? Just tell me.
![]()
No, I didn't get it, could you please send it again? I will monitor the mail super-tightly... I have no idea what happened - you didn't put any forbidden words in the subject line, did you?If you could do it right away that would be great. I will look at each male, even those rejected by the spam filter for the next few hours.
OF COURSE we would love to get those pictures!
![]()
![]()
Merde! I will write it again!!! Forbidden words? ( hehe ) No, just resent your original post.
So after posting this I will write you an Email through AA.
Do you have bad manners? Instead at looking most of the times at your nostril, you should read some of the times at the posts here, instead of polemic, just some nice thoughts and kind words.PS: Clueless is one of Victorīs favorite into the " guilty pleasure thread "
![]()
Clueless is one of my favorites. I own it on laserdisc and have seen it several times. I don't understand how what I posted prompted you to question my manners or my looking down my nose at anything.
![]()
And i thought it was Troy..Sorry again!
![]()
Reread your first post !
So it was a typo!
I am glad. So sorry.

I have my own copy of this Matthew Lillard masterpiece of over-acting and screaming. Who'd a thought of a punk movement in Salt Lake? Ah, the exasperatons of being different in Morman land. Trite, obnoxious, yet funny--to me, anyway.

I am becoming more drawn to IFC everyday.
![]()
It is a great channel, and I check it out each night, but lately it has been mostly no-go... can't explain why, but the good catches seem to behappening less frequently. That one and the two Sundance ones are big help.

I will watch it as many times as it is on.

Alicia is a darling there.

is another one that registers well up on the laugh meter!
Guilty pleasure indeedGraham
Everyone leaves microbes'n whatnot! Hell, that's your forte, trackin' down them microbes left by criminals'n commies'n sh*t! That's yer whole damn raison d'etre! No leads?! I want Nathan Jr. back, or whichever the hell one they took! He's out there SOMEwhere! Somethin' LEADS to him! And anyone can find him knows the difference between a lead and a hole in the ground!!

I don't think I could feel guilty about liking any of the Coen Brothers movies.Raising Arizona is a personal favorite. So stylish, so funny, so manic. Amazing cinematography too.
![]()
I have a lot of admiration for the Coens' films, but I'm wondering if they may have bitten off more than they can chew by trying to remake "The Ladykillers."
![]()
I donīt think so, stylish they are, but I never REALLY enjoy them, I never had the wish to view them twice, I remember " The man who was not there " I had admiration, but no love for it. I miss something.
![]()
Loved it. What a fantastic understated film noir homage!I find Coens movies are best on about the 3rd viewing. All the subtleties connect by then. With one or 2 exceptions, all their movies give me great pleasure. You can see their love of movies in everything they make.
I think they will do fine with the Ladykillers. I have no doubt that these guys can do any kind of movie.
Amazing film!
Had me glued in my seat from beginning to end.
Tony Shalhoub as a shark-lawyer was nothing short of brilliant.
I think I'll buy the dvd.
![]()
Yes, yes and yes, but in the end it did leave me cold, I admire the handicraft! And I would like to love it.
The same for all of the bunch. Specially for " Barton Fink " this one leave me cold in anyway.
Ladykillers..Hum, who will be as good as Sir Alec?
![]()
There comes a time in every Coen Brothers film where something just whacky happens and you say to yourself, "Only in a Coen Brothers film." Examples are when the woman talking about aliens arrives in "TMWWT" or when the Japanese classmate calls Marge in the middle of the night in "Fargo" or when Paul Newman falls out the window and there's a flashback to his tailor in "The Hudsucker Proxy".
![]()
Or did I miss it, after having seen this film four times?Regards
I agree there is no such magic Coen moment in "Miller's Crossing" which is probably why it's my least favorite of their efforts. I should have said "...in MOST Coen Brothers films".
![]()
Perhaps because it doesn't have the element of unexpected, like the other ones you mentioned?
MC does not delve anywhere surreal but sticks to the story instead.
Imho, it is a head above the touted film that was somewhat modeled after it - Road to Perdition.
The hudsucker was a failed attempt. I thing that Fargo was maybe the most valid of what they have done...till now. It was the more complete.
![]()
...Blood Simple was the most complete. IMO.
![]()
--The hudsucker was a failed attempt.
To be a film. Remember it was somekind of a remake.
![]()
It was? I didn't know that. What was the original called?
![]()
It was Capraīs " Meet John Doe " with Gary Cooper. An old, but very good film. Humanistic and with a touch that some would call " utopian " but those who donīt feel this way are the real utopians.
Have you seen " The lost Horizon? "
The mother of a lot of films. Fascinant.
Are you sure Hudsucker was molded after Meet John Doe ?
Of course, at my age I can mixed up things.....But I look and I did not...
![]()
I know that this film does not have a large following but it remains one of my favorites. There are obvious references to other films
("The Front Page", "Star Wars", "Superman", etc.) but I don't think this highly original film is a remake of anything. It perfectly captures the fifties and makes a great double bill with "Quiz Show".
![]()
It was " Meet Joe Doeī s" Capra. I saw twice, better say one time and a half. I just did not like it, I remember only to found it totally boring and having nothing of the magic the original had.
Which " Front Page " there are so many! The Quiz Show..is a film I like ! All falls together in this one.
I bought it.
