hi,
this movie is a mixed bag. There are a number of things it does really well; and basically i'm glad i saw it. It has some lame characters. It also seems to suffer from asynchronicity, which is a dumb way of saying the thing is at least partly autobiographical, and it seems like some of what
goes on came out of the 70's.
But....in the end it is an engaging movie about a couple of boomers
who, after years of procrastinating, decide to grow up.
It does have a number of very human moments, which have echoed in my heart, in the days since i have seen it.
I'd agree with the mixed bag comment. In fact I'd go a bit further and call it more than a little disappointing. I couldnt escape the feeling I was watching the collision between a relationship movie, Ferris Beullers Day Off and Empire Records. In short - a bit lacking in originality and not really a movie that ever fully took off as a comedy. Of course I had watched the DVD of Grosse Point Blank recently and the comedic fire and engaging characters of that movie makes this one pale in comparison, but then this movie wasn't really a pure comedy so that may be a bit unfair...joe
hi Mart,
sorry, but i didn't get that one. Could you explain the reference? Thanks
it's from the movie "Grosse Pointe Blank". At the end when John Cusack wanted to marry Minnie Driver, her father peeked out of the tub & said "He's got my blessing"

Grosse Point Blank:One of the funniest parts of this movie was when John Cusack goes back to the old neighborhood to see where he used to live and finds out his house has been turned into a 7 Eleven. It was hilarious.

My favorite part is when Joan Cusack is "closing up shop", burning and destroying any incriminating evidence while humming a merry tune. Dan Ackroyd was great, too.
interestingI just placed a post in "General Asylum" w/o a password & my post showed that I was logged-in, but here at the "Video Asylum" I'm not.
