"The Thin Red Line"
"Saving Private Ryan"
"Patton"
"Sahara"
"A Walk in the Sun"
"Battleground"
Also, the "Band of Brothers DVD boxed set.
Follow Ups:
I second "The Thin Red Line."Terrence Malik doesn't make films very often--a gross understatement, and the cast of The Thin Red Line is superb: Jim Caviezel (BEFORE he became a big star), John Cusack, Sean Penn, Nick Noltke.
I like it more than Saving Private Ryan . . . don't misunderstand me, there is some great combat in SPR, but the whole story line (risking a squad of soldiers to save one, just because his two brothers have died) is implausible.
The Thin Red Line--IMO--is a contemplative anti-war movie. The soundtrack by Hans Zimmer is one of my favorites.
Just an opinion, as usual.
