Spielberg is allowed his silly, childish sci-fi and archeological flicks w/out having to answer to those who want "The Color of Purple" or "Schindler's List" each time out.
"Kill Bill," parts one and two, represent, quite simply, the best mindless entertainment in years. Unlike the Spielberg schlock, however, Quentin's is written for adults.
Let's see...who writes better dialogue?
And...would you rather watch Indy crack a whip or "The Mommy" whack a crip? Your choice, of course, but I'll go for Uma, every damn time.

Follow Ups:
Look I enjoyed Kill Bill as much as the next guy but this is not in Raiders' league - not in the same ballpark. Kill Bill is a tribute to martial arts films - great it didn't transcend the genre making it the best ever film on the subject. Raiders(for the action/adventure genre) and Pulp Fiction (for well the cult/pulp films and novels) did.In fact Kill Bill is an offshoot almost from ONE scene from Pulp Fiction when UMA tells Travolta that she was in a pilot for the Fox Five.
Raiders is for adults - and if you're a smart one you may pick up on the subtlety, insight and commentary on World War II and the government. Or you can watch it for the sheer slam bang fun and some of the best dialogue in the genre.
where you said "Raiders" was for adults. It was a nod to children's matinees of long ago. The cartoonish villains, the teenagish male-female "relationship..." adult?
Amazing one places "Pulp Fiction" in the same category, much less the same galaxy of quality. Kind of like comparing "My Sharona" to "Aida."

I rented the first one a couple of days ago. Didn't expect to like it, but I thought it was great fun. Saw the second tonight. Enjoyed it as well. Pai Mei was cracking me up.

I saw this last night. It's funny you should bring up who writes better dialog. As a QT fan in the past, particularly as he tends to generate dialog driven movies (granted, that's hard to say for someone with so few movies out) this movie really had weak dialog. As this was the less action/more talk of the two Bills, that led me to be a little let down. I hoped for witty, interesting conversation. Not here. I guess I agree that this could have been one movie instead of two. The editting in Part 2 was rather slow.I did somewhat enjoy the film. David Carradine was worth watching. It was a little more interesting than many of the movies that are thrown together these days. The fact that this goes on many people's list of the best in American cinema these days is a testament to the sad condition we are in. Guess I should stick to renting for a while.

I agree. Thats why most of the movies/DVDs I watch are imports.

That's because the silly sci-fi and archeological flicks are the norm for him. The Color Purple and Shindler's List are the exceptions.> > > "Kill Bill," parts one and two, represent, quite simply, the best mindless entertainment in years. Best mindless entertainment in Years? Please...
Written for adults??? I haven't seen part 2 yet, but I just saw 1 last night. Minimal dialog, OK action, but I've seen better sword play movies. It was a nice tribute to the Shaw Brothers and Manga comics, but I didn't think it was worth the hype. That's just me. I'll see part 2 when it comes out on disc, but I won't bother seeing it in the theaters.

"That's because the silly sci-fi and archeological flicks are the norm for him. The Color Purple and Schindler's List are the exceptions."Interesting that Sci-Fi is silly according to you. It is one of the most insightful scientifically and if done right the most poignant historically. Most slack jawed Americans probably don't GET 2001: A Space Oddysey but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's a great film.
As for Spielberg - counting his films up I don't see his serious efforts outnumbered:
Schindler's List (Thank god he didn't turn it over to Polanski as he had planned or we would have had the weak willed, less insightful lesser directed, less important, poorer production valued, small time The Pianist).
Saving Private Ryan: On second view it's actually quite smart - too smart with too many deep themes for those not up on military history to grasp. So rather than THINK and get an education - it's written off because people don't like Spielberg. Works for me because I studied the history and understand the government thinking of the time which is why I laugh at moron critics who DON'T GET why the government would send in a team to save one guy. Not only is it plausable it would be implausable for that kind of thing to NOT happen. But you can lead a horse to water but you can't make hime THINK!
Colour Purple: Film gets 11 nominations and Spielberg regretted making it. Not bad for a film you he didn't think he did a good job on - he did despite his doubt. He should have pushed the envelope with rape scene (or even include it), it was a pivotal move that knocks the film backward. But then Eyes Wide shut was an utter Pile of crap and Tarrantino's Dusk till Dawn was crappola and Reservoir Dogs was hardly the last bastion of insightful film making but Tarrantino and Kubrick were not written off yet.The SugarLand Express - art film and because it is - nobody saw it - a good one as well. No Hollywood ending and no sap.
Amistad - sap tried too hard didn't work - poor casting.
A.I. Sap didn't work
E.T, Jaws, Raiders - Masterpiece, Masterpiece, Masterpiece. All on most everyone's best 100 list for a reason.
Schindler's List - well easuiily and by far the best film on the subject. TO think that Claude Lantzman had 9 hours to tell a worse less insightful - Masterpiece.
Then there is the stuff I'm luke-warm to that people seem to like. Jurassic Park, Close Encounters, Duel, Minority Report.

I was paraphrasing tinear who said it was "silly, Childish".
I enjoy Sci-Fi. I watch more sci-fi than any other genre.
As for Speilberg, I'm not a big fan.

"Unlike the Spielberg schlock, however, Quentin's is written for adults."Vol.2 was written for 16-year olds. It's that idiotic.
