Hi all:I was telling someone who took the Matrix too seriously that the machines would have used electric eels, large sub-intelligent mammals or something far more efficient and easier to control than humans to provide their energy
. You wouldn't even need a matrix for those buggers (easy there, PETA). Hell, why bother with a Matrix at all, even if they insisted on humans. Just keep 'em alive- who cares if they're happy... heh :). He was dumbfounded, never having considered or heard my observation elsewhere. I always thought that was the fatal flaw in the otherwise-decent "completeness" of the fantasy world created by the film.
Is it just me? I'll bet this was all too obvious to others, right?

You're looking at this waaay too logically. The Matrix is pure mythology. Perhaps you should argue the logic of god instead.

Come on. It was fun escapism scifi and not grounded science fiction ala' A.C. Clarke. That said, why would the machines strap up the humans? To avoid the energy drain of all us audiophiles powering up huge SS amps of course. In the matrix world right before the takeover, humans have overrun the planet with Hummers and Halcro's (and the Tellig cult all have MF 1Kilowatt monoblocks even for their computer music system).
