Hi, yes there was a version in the 70's with ole Big Lips. Interestingly, a Ned Kelly movie was the very first movie ever made here in Oz. There's something about Kelly that captures our imagination and even reflects the Australian spirit (maybe not the part about killing cops!). He's like our version of Robin Hood or Billy the Kid.
The 2003 remake was IMHO terrible. It suffered from severe "Hollywood-itis" - predictable plot, evil government, over the top violence, etc, etc. Kelly didn't kill that many cops in real life. Cheers. Doug
