I dug through my older DVD's this weekend and came up with a pair of John Travolta flicks. I thought both were quite good & would not hesitate to recommend either."Primary Colors" - Travolta, Emma Thompson, Bily Bob Thorton. A Southern politician's campaign on the way to the White House. Travolta does a great Bill Clinton in this one; the accent and demeanor is spot on. Thorton is quite funny as a James Carville type.....
"A Civil Action" - Travolta, John Lithgow, Robert Duvall, Bill Macy, James Gandolfini. John Travolta is an aggressive personal injury lawyer who takes on a case involving a very large corporation. The case gets drawn out by the defense and he ends up bankrupting his practice...... but in the process Travolta becomes a kinder, gentler man :-) Sounds kinda sappy, but its realy not a preachy-type flick. Great acting all around and a very engaging plot. Based on a true story also....
Tomorrow night I will be watching one of my favs starring Travolta - "Blow Out."
Follow Ups:
I quite liked this. ESpecially liked the guy who played the villain, Wes Hightower. Kinda corny at times, but still like to watch it once in awhile.

He is an under-rated actor, but also an interesting person... heck, who else has a 707 parked in his backyard, with a Lear jet on the side?I thought the Civil Action was OK, not great. Of course many would consider the Pulp Fiction his finest hour.

must have been Battlefield Earth.

I can't look past the 'Look Who's Talking' trilogy. I'll watch 'Battlefield Earth' time and again over the above dreck.John still has that charm that is classic in nature, he's both tough and vulnerable. And I need to see Blow-Out again.

...by far the worst Sci-Fi author of all time, IMHO.

This de Palma film pays homage to both "Blow Up" and "The Conversation".

Also Hitchcock ... just about every de Palma film borrows shots from Hitch, even something like Mission Impossible.Part of the fun (for me) of watching a de Palma film is seeing scenes that make me go, "Oooh, I know I saw that shot in a Hitch movie somewhere."
Blow Out has my favorite use of the famous "De Palma Pan" because it's done in a scene involving reel-to-reel tapes that also spin round and round. (That particular scene uses Hitch's god's eye shot to boot, too!).

Funny - I also watched Carlito's Way about 2 weeks ago. I think dePalma directed that one also?
Join the Brian de Palma fan club here!!!!! I think I'm the ONLY member on this Film board through.Tarrentino attributes Blow Out to his wanting John Travolta to act in Pulp Fiction. Watch Dressed to Kill and let me know what you think.
Yes, de Palma directed Carlito's Way, which does come across as a lesser version of Scarface (another Pacino/de Palma film), and de Palma would top his own Grand Central chase in Carlito's Way when he did the Untouchables. I love Sean Penn as the dirty lawyer in Carlito's Way. Totally smarmy!
